The election of the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) will be held in Tura tomorrow.
It may be mentioned that GHADC Chairman Rakesh A. Sangma has resigned from his post to contest the CEM election.
Sangma who is the candidate of the NPP led ruling alliance is also the brother-in law of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
Former CEM Benedic R. Marak has also filed nomination to contest for the post.
He is supported by the opposition Trinamool Congress and two BJP MDCs.
Yesterday, Marak who is also an MDC of NPP was defeated in the no confidence motion moved against him by his own NPP MDCs.
As many as 15 MDCs voted against Marak who secured the support of only 13 MDCs.
The political turmoil in GHADC began after Marak dropped three MDCs from the posts of chairmen. Later, nine Executive Members resigned from the Executive Committee.
Marak is also the sitting MLA of NPP from Raksamgre constituency.
