Shillong, Apr 8: The Incident Response Team today met to review the preparedness of all departments and to ensure effective coordination in the event of calamities during the monsoon season of 2026.
The district coordination meeting was chaired by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, also chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Rosetta Mary Kurbah.
During the meeting, it was decided that all departments shall undertake pre-monsoon preparedness measures on priority. These include inspection of flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, as well as assessment of vulnerable trees and electricity lines that may collapse or pose risks during strong winds and heavy rainfall.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the importance of conducting regular mock exercises across government offices to strengthen emergency response mechanisms. Additionally, fire safety audits of buildings were highlighted as a critical component of preparedness.
All departments were directed to update and maintain an inventory of available resources for effective emergency response.
Kurbah urged all government officials to remain vigilant and ensure prompt and coordinated response during any disaster situation.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the district administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive planning and inter-departmental coordination.
Additional Deputy Commissioner S. Warjri, along with officials from various line departments, Block Development Officers, Sub Divisional Officer (C) under the district, as well as representatives from the armed and paramilitary forces attended the meeting.
