A total of 3,572 eligible persons under the Mawryngkneng and Mawphlang constituencies were vaccinated against Covid-19 (inclusive of second dose) during the two-day mega vaccination drive on election mode conducted by the East Khasi Hills district administration in collaboration with the officer of the District Medical and Health Officer.
Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo informed that the mega camps were organised with the aim to target as many beneficiaries as possible, taking the vaccination to their doorstep from December 14-15.
The movement of the teams from Polo to the various vaccination centres in these two constituencies commenced on December 14 at 9 am, with teams halting for the night at the designated centre and recommencing vaccination, enrolment and registration at 6.30 am the next day till 4 pm, she said.
Around 400 government officials cutting across departments were part of this mammoth two day exercise in the two constituencies, she added.
Laloo said, “Doctors, health care workers, zonal and sector officers, team leaders went all out counselling the public at their homes, on the streets, in their shops, and wherever possible. There were encouraging examples of people convinced by the counselling of the doctors and field staff, coming forward to receive the vaccination on the streets, in their homes and workplaces.”
The vaccination centres also carried out enrolment for Aadhar with 3022 enrolments and 2273 e-Shram registrations, the DC informed.
“With the concerted efforts put in cutting across departments and the aim to achieve maximum coverage of vaccination for the population as early as possible in order to safeguard against a third wave or newer, deadlier variants, similar drives will be conducted across all blocks in the district,” Laloo said.
