The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has issued an advisory to the public in light of the presence of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in India.
The very general notification also comes as the district, and Meghalaya as a whole, is gearing up for a convivial Christmas and New Year.
Given that the variant of concern has a higher rate of transmission and poses a threat to lives, livelihood and the stability of the health service, the DC issued an advisory calling on the public to get vaccinated against Covid-19, wear masks, maintain physical distance and sanitise/wash hands regularly in order to prevent a third wave.
