The East Jaiñtia National Council (EJNC) today burn the effigy of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in protest against his statement made in the Assam Assembly that Mukroh is a part of West Karbi Anglong district.
“Mukroh falls under the jurisdiction of the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council and documents are there to prove that,” EJNC president Sambormi Lyngdoh said at the protest in Khliehriat.
He said that the statement made by the Assam CM is unacceptable and baseless as people of Mukroh have exercised their franchise during the recent Meghalaya assembly elections.
Lyngdoh also urged the MDA 2.0 government to take up the matter immediately with Assam. “In fact the government of Meghalaya should remove the forest outpost set up by Assam in Mukroh,” he added.
The EJNC further urged the elected representatives from the Jaintia Hills region, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, cabinet minister, Comingone Ymbon and Kyrmen Shylla, to take up the issue in the forthcoming Assembly session.
