The Anti-Narcotics Task Force of East Jaiñtia Hills police today arrested two persons for smuggling of marijuana. Police said they have seized over 71 kilograms of the contraband.
The arrests were made after the police team received a tip-off that two drug suppliers were coming down to Khliehriat from Kalain. The team along with staff of the Anti-Infiltration Umtyra CP laid a trap and intercepted a Maruti Sx4 bearing registration number AS-01-AN-3312 around 6:15 am
While searching the car, police recovered over 71.476 kilograms of marijuana packed in 117 packets hidden under the rear side of the bumper and rear back light, East Jaintia Hills SP Jagpal Singh Danoa said.
The two in the vehicle were identified as Babalu Singh (56) and Suranjan Mahto (39), both residents of Patna, Bihar.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Khliehriat PS and investigation is on.
