Eight houses were gutted in a massive fire at Maxwelton Compound, Zig Zag Road, Rilbong here on Saturday.
No loss of life or injury was reported.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, said the fire broke out at around 4:50 pm wherein eight houses were completely gutted.
“During the inquiry, it is learned that the fire started from one storeroom in the steel fabrication where MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) Board is fixed,” he said.
“The fire has been controlled with the help of eight fire tenders and due to the timely response, the fire was stopped from spreading to adjoining houses,” Nongtnger added.
Three LPG cylinders also exploded.
Eastern Air Command (EAC) also activated the emergency services and pushed two of its fire tenders into action.
