Nongpoh, Feb 10: The Eastern Command investiture ceremony was held today at Umroi Military Station.
The ceremony was presided over by Lt Gen Ram Chander Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command.
During the event, 37 gallantry and distinguished service awards were presented to personnel in recognition of exceptional valour, leadership and selfless commitment to duty. These included 19 Sena Medals (Gallantry), seven Sena Medals (Distinguished), two Yudh Seva Medals, one Bar to Vishisht Seva Medal, seven Vishisht Seva Medals and one Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak.
In addition, 49 army units along with Army Public School Kolkata were honoured with the GOC-in-C Eastern Command Unit Appreciation for their outstanding professionalism, operational excellence and notable achievements.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of senior officers from the Indian armed forces and family members of the award recipients, including Veer Naris (military widows).
While addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Tiwari congratulated the awardees and urged all ranks to continue upholding the highest traditions, values and ethos of the Indian Army.
As part of the celebrations, a cultural evening titled “Shaurya Sandhya” was organised yesterday, featuring vibrant performances that highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage and paid tribute to the indomitable spirit of courage and sacrifice.
