Eastern Air Command commemorated the 91st anniversary of the foundation of the Indian Air Force today.
Established on October 8, 1932 with just six Indian airmen as an auxiliary air force of the UK’s Royal Air Force, it expanded greatly during the Second World War and was itself granted the prefix ‘Royal’ in 1945, though this was dropped when independent India became a republic.
In the lead-up to Air Force Day, the units under Eastern Air Command organised diverse formal and social events to celebrate the 91st anniversary of the IAF. Honouring the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, Air Marshal SP Dharkar, the Air Officer Commanding in Chief of Eastern Air Command, paid tribute by laying a wreath at the war memorial located at EAC headquarters here.
Air Marshal Dharkar also extended greetings and best wishes to all personnel and their families within EAC, urging them to persistently strive towards elevating the IAF and the nation to greater heights and glory.
