The Regional Transport Authority of East Khasi Hills has formally reissued the approved fare structure from 2020 for taxis and autorickshaws plying in the district.
The fares were adjusted in January 2020 but were soon abrogated after the coming of the Covid-19 pandemic two months later, which saw the government raise the rates while lowering the number of passengers permitted.
Now with the pandemic apparently receding as a threat, the government decided to bring the fares back down.
According to the schedule of rates, an autorickshaw can charge Rs 14 for the first kilometre, or part thereof, and Rs 6 for every additional kilometre. Additionally there will be a charge of Rs 6 for every five minutes that an auto is asked to wait by a passenger.
For taxis, the fare is Rs 26 for the first kilometre and Rs 13 for every additional kilometre. Additionally there will be a charge of Rs 7 for every five minutes that a taxi is asked to wait by a passenger.
