Shillong, Jul 26: The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has invoked Section 163 BNSS, to prohibit littering along the Shillong-Sohra road in particular and in other popular tourist spots across Shillong City and the district.
This stringent measure comes in the wake of indiscriminate disposal of plastic waste, food packaging, and other waste materials by visitors along this crucial tourism corridor, particularly at viewpoints and attractions.
The order said if littering the indiscriminate disposal of waste pollutes the environment and affects the aesthetic beauty and cleanliness of the places.
Any violation of the said order will attract penal provisions under Section 223 of the BNS and any other Section as deemed fit and appropriate, the order said.
