Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today promised the people of Raid Nongpoh to facilitate construction of a road leading to the sacred site of the Shad Sajer festival at Lum Woyrtoh.
Tynsong who attended the festival said the two kilometre road will connect the festival site to the National Highway 6 via Pahamsyiem.
The people of Raid Nongpoh expressed gratitude and said it a step towards sustaining their rich cultural traditions and infrastructural growth in the area.
The festival featured a vibrant display of traditional dances performed by the youth of the Raid.
Speaking on the importance of the festival, Lyngdoh of Raid Nongpoh Linus Lyngdoh emphasised that the festival is not merely a celebration but an important tradition aimed at preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Raid, passed down from the ancestors. He reiterated the community’s commitment to safeguarding this tradition at its sacred site in Lum Woyrtoh and highlighted the need for further government support to develop the area.
Nongpoh MLA Mayral Born Syiem, MDC Rona Khymdeit, Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, local leaders and residents from the Raid attended the festival.
