Shillong, Feb 19: With reports of “indiscriminate” dumping of waste into gorges and streams all along the Mawlai Bypass, the District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has promulgated an order under Section 163 of the BNSS.
The dumping of waste is a public nuisance and could lead to a public health and environmental issue. As such, the DM has banned anyone from dumping waste, sewage, plastic, debris, etc or to discharge effluent along the route.
The order was issued yesterday and came into effect immediately.
