Shillong, Sep 30: A fairly persistent dry spell over the last few days has led to higher than normal temperatures in parts of Meghalaya.
On Monday the maximum temperature in Sohra was 4.4 degrees Celsius above the norm, with a high of 28.7 degrees. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) station in Umiam recorded a maximum temperature yesterday of 31.3 degrees C, 3.4 higher than normal, while that of Shillong was 26.0, 2.9 degrees higher.
These temperatures are still cooler than those recorded in Garo Hills. Resubelpara was positively sweltering at 34.8 degrees, the hottest recorded by the IMD in Meghalaya yesterday.
With the monsoon starting to retreat, rain has definitely reduced in Meghalaya. In the 24 hours to 8:30am today, Tura recorded the most precipitation at between 20 to 40mm.
The IMD will continue with its yellow weather alert for tomorrow, warning of scattered thunderstorms.
