Nongpoh, Oct 15: Within just four hours of conducting a traffic inspection drive along National Highway 6 in Ri-Bhoi, district police collected fines amounting to Rs 4 lakh from vehicles found violating various traffic regulations.
The special inspection drive was carried out at Mawdiangum along NH-6 last night, beginning at 9pm and concluding at 1am. During the operation, several vehicles were found to be in violation of the law — including cases of drunken driving, lack of valid documents, riders without helmets, use of prohibited vehicle lights and other traffic-related offences.
The drive was personally led by Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police VS Rathore, assisted by Additional SP Orville Massar, along with senior officers and other police personnel. The police seized several vehicles found in violation and did not release those that failed to comply with the law.
According to reports from the inspection site, the majority of the fines were imposed on drivers under the influence of alcohol.
