Jowai, Mar 21: An awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was conducted by the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Jowai in collaboration with police at the Lions Club Community Hall, Pohskur.
District Crime Records Bureau in charge JK Majaw spoke on drug abuse prevention, highlighting the seriousness of the issue and the growing impact it has on society. He discussed the root cause of drug abuse and emphasised that combating the menace requires a collective effort from the community, particularly the VDP, religious leaders and NGOs.
He also highlighted the provision of the NDPS Act and explained the relevant legal procedures.
Majaw advised that people should never take the law in their hands in matters related to drugs and to report such issues to the police.
Representatives from the Breakthrough centre Khliehtyrshi and Mih-myntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA) highlighted their ongoing efforts in raising awareness and providing support for individuals affected by drug abuse.
District Social Welfare Officer Y. Najiar drew attention to the rising problem of drug abuse, stressing the need for awareness, timely action and encouraged everyone to work together towards a drug free future.
