The driver of an inter-state bus died after the ill-fated vehicle rammed into the back of a parked truck on National Highway 6 in Nongpoh today.
The accident occurred at around 7am when the bus (AR 16 A 5022), which was enroute to Guwahati, struck the rear of a truck (NL 01 AA 8595), which had stopped along the highway due to a technical problem.
The bus driver, Nur Ahmed (33), of Hailagandi in Assam, was severely injured in the accident. He was stuck in the vehicle but, with the help of locals, was pulled out of the wreck and taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
Nongpoh police are investigating the incident.
