Renowned medical practitioner, Dr Rangksan Singh Thangkhiew (Founder, Managing Director & Chief Gastroenterologist) of Supercare Hospital was awarded the ‘Distinguished Career Award’ at the Northeast Healthcare Excellence Award 2023.
This is not the first the accomplished gastroenterologist with an eventful career of over 40 years was feted for this work. Last year Dr. Thangkhiew was honoured with ‘The Economic Times Inspiring Gastroenterologist of India’ award during the Doctors Conclave held in New Delhi to observe National Doctors Day.
The Northeast Healthcare Summit held in Radisson Blue Hotel, Guwahati yesterday is an exclusive platform to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of key stakeholders in the healthcare industry of the northeast region.
Dr. Thangkhiew completed his MBBS from Assam Medical College in 1980 and his MD (Medicine) from PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1985. He was the first Super- specialist in Gastroenterology in the Northeast when he finished his DM(Gastro) in 1987 from PGIMER, Chandigarh.
He was also the first to perform Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), which is a procedure that combines the use of endoscopy and x-rays to diagnose and treat certain problems of the biliary or pancreatic ductal systems, in the region in 1999.
It may be mentioned that Dr. Thangkhiew has built a loyal base of thousands of patients, many of whom have been with him for generations and treat him as a family member.
