The dorbar shnong Namdong-B has demanded life imprisonment for Tell Me Pyrtuh alias Bor Pyrtuh for his alleged involvement in the gruesome murder of two taxi drivers in Jaiñtia Hill.
The demand was also raised by family members of the accused at a public rally held today, attended by, waheh shnongs, teachers, students, members of the Joint Action Committee Nartiang Khanduli Area and pressure groups.
Demanding severe punishment for Tell Me and his accomplice, the public at the rally wants life imprisonment stating that it will serve as a deterrent for such crimes and for the safety of the village.
Mother of Tell Me, Soiloda Pyrtuh also spoke at the rally and said she supports the demand. She said his act of crime is unacceptable in a civil society.
Tell Me, I Love You Talang, who was killed by a mob in Shangpung, Ramesh Dkhar and Sampher Ksoo were arrested on charges of murder of Damehipaia Papeng and Fullmoon Kharsahnoh last month.
Waheh shnong of Namdong, Damian War, KSU Nartiang circle president Chanbor War, waheh shnong of Moodop Nartiang Damon Dkhar, KSU Lapangap unit general secretary Augustang Timung, representative from the Pyrtuh clan, Mantre Pyrtuh, waheh shnongs under the JAC and other spoke at the protest rally.
Meanwhile, the JAC has urged jail authorities and police to ensure security improvements to prevent escapes of prisoners. The recent jailbreak has created a sense of fear and insecurity amongst the people, which even led to the killing of the four escapees, the committee said.
Meanwhile, civil authorities will likely have the responsibility of disposing of the body of I Love You Talang, the murder suspect who escaped from jail and was then lynched by a mob on Sunday.
At least the dorbar shnong of Moorap and clan have disassociated themselves from Talang and refused to take his body.
West Jaiñtia Hills police today stated that if the body is not claimed within two days it will be disposed of by the authorities.
