The Executive Committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) today resolved to write to all banks in the state capital to demand that they stop insisting on Dorbar Shnongs producing PAN Cards when they want to open bank accounts.
Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne told reporters that Dorbar Shnongs are Sixth Schedule-recognised institutions and not registered societies and thus do not have to apply for PAN cards from the Income Tax Department.
