Two days after UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh had said that his party chose not to withdraw support to the NPP-led MDA government as it did not want President’s Rule in the State, Deputy Chief Minister and senior NPP leader Prestone Tynsong reacted by daring the UDP to pull out of the government.
It may be mentioned that Mawthoh while speaking at a party meeting in Jowai on May 29 had said that UDP was unhappy with the goings on in the NPP-led government but the party preferred to stay in the ruling alliance as it did not want President’s Rule in the State.
Speaking to media persons here today, Tynsong said, “I have seen the statement made by certain senior leaders of UDP. They mentioned that the NPP-led MDA government under the leadership of Conrad Sangma has caused more damage than the constructive programmes that we did. Again, they said they are scared that if they withdraw from the government then President’s Rule will come. My personal opinion is very clear. If you feel that the NPP led government keeps damaging the interest of the State, why should you be scared of President’s Rule? Even the President’s Rule is in accordance with the Constitution of India.”
Further Tynsong said that he has nothing to comment on the allegations made by MDA partners since all decisions taken by the government were done after consultations and green signal by all alliance partners.
“Before any decisions were taken by this government we consulted the two important platforms – the MDA and the coordination committee of MDA. Almost four and half years now we were together, we were united and whatever decision was taken we did it unanimously. Just because the election is about seven-eight months from now, the leaders of UDP are talking about this and that. We leave it to the wisdom of the voters. If our partners feel that NPP is not a good party I can’t help it,” Tynsong added.
