The youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has advised the public not to be “duped” by assurances from the army when the military takes over land in the State.
KHNAM youth wing leader Thomas Passah said this following Monday’s scuffle in Mawshbuit between residents of the village and 58 Gorkha Training Centre personnel over a gate under control by the armed forces but which the villagers depend on to connect them to the outside world.
Passah said that KHNAM wants the State government to inform the Ministry of Defence about the incident and similar ones in the past that have occurred.
The party stated that it is high time that land owners and the local Dorbar Shnong be farsighted and not be duped by the various assurances the army gives on employment opportunities and development prior to acquiring land.
“We also demand the State government collect detailed information on the places occupied by the army authorities in Shillong and apprise the government of India of the need to relocate them from Shillong and the residential areas,” Passah said today.
