The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should have been allowed to investigate the circumstances behind the collapse of the doomed dome at the new Assembly building, state Congress Party spokesperson Ronnie Lyngdoh has told Highland Post.
The state government has, instead, tasked IIT Guwahati with conducting an audit. The dome collapsed on May 22.
Stating that an Assembly building is a temple of democracy where every law emanates and the dome’s collapse is a big disgrace, Lyngdoh said that the matter should have been handed to the CBI to get to the truth of the matter.
“Now you have a structure where even the lives of people and legislators are not certain because it may collapse anytime,” he said.
With only a few months to go before the state elections, Lyngdoh urged the public to punish those guilty of corruption as it is the people who will ultimately have to pay the price for such malfeasance. The corrupt get away with their crimes because good people shut their eyes, ears and mouths.
