The court of M. Kumar, Special Judge (POCSO), West Khasi Hills, Nongstoiñ has convicted three persons in connection to cases of sexual assault on minors and awarded them rigorous imprisonment and fine.
One Dr Ayam Sunil Khuman of Khurai, Imphal East district, who had a clinic at Pyndengumiong village, Mairang, Eastern West Khasi Hills was found guilty under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He received punishment of rigorous imprisonment for 20 years with a fine of Rs 1.25 lakh.
The convicted felon also received another five-year simple imprisonment and payment of Rs 25,000 fine under section 10 of the POCSO Act. This section deals with for committing “aggravated sexual assault”. In default of fine, he has to undergo simple imprisonment for another six months.
The case was investigated by RR Marak of Mairang police station.
In a separate ruling, the Special Judge sentenced one Buksar Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi of Dombahkseh village, Eastern West Khasi Hills district to undergo imprisonment for 20 years for sexual assault on a minor in the year 2023. He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 15,000 and in default, the convict will undergo further simple imprisonment of another six months.
The case was registered at Mairang Police Station and investigated by women police sub inspector B Nongrang.
The Special Judge also sentenced one Phrangsngi Ryntathiang of Dongkiingding village, Eastern West Khasi Hills to three years imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. He was ordered to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 and in default he will have to undergo further simple imprisonment of another six months.
The case was investigated by women police sub inspector A Thongni.
