All the district headquarters in the state today celebrated the 52nd Statehood day with fanfare. As Meghalaya Day falls on a Sunday, the celebration was held in advance.
In North Garo Hills, the celebration was held at the Mini Secretariat, Resubelpara wherein senior citizens and retired government officials of the district, Marquish Sangma and Willingbirth Marak were invited to share the historical account on the formation of the statehood. They spoke about the achievements, developments and transformation of the state witnessed long after its inception.
Tributes were also paid to state founding fathers as well as the names of the local leaders who were instrumental in the rally for an independent state. The speakers also pressed upon the citizens to be productive and bring growth and prosperity towards the progress of the state.
As part of the programme, the District Best Employee award was given to Ajith Marak of the Fisheries Department for his contribution towards the department.
In East Jaiñtia Hills, cultural dances marked the day. Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, district officials, traditional heads, teachers and students attended the programme.
Baranwal urged officials and members of the public to perform tasks assigned to them to the best of their capability notwithstanding the challenges that they encounter on a day to day basis.
In West Jaintia, Amlarem MLA Lahkmen Rymbui joined the celebration along with district officials and prominent citizens of Jowai and others.
Rymbui acknowledged the selfless contribution of the state founders and called upon residents of the district to be responsible persons and embrace positivity for collective development of the district.
He exhorted youth to not indulge in drugs and social media pitfalls but to explore various government schemes available for their benefit.
The board examination toppers from district, Reesa EE Christine Suting of North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Larisa Lamin of Adventist Higher Secondary School, Thadlaskein were felicitated during the programme.
