Noting the special effort made by teachers in meeting the needs of their students despite all the challenges that have been created by the Covid-19 pandemic, districts in Meghalaya honoured teachers at their respective 60th Teachers’ Day celebrations.
In Ri-Bhoi, Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem was the chief guest at a function to honour the educators of the district.
Syiem also promised that he would take up the cause of the teachers in getting equal pay with the state government.
In Resubelpara, the district awards for North Garo Hills were handed over to Dominic Marak, assistant teacher, Don Bosco Mendal; Maximus Kujur, assistant teacher, Bajengdoba Govt School; and Prodipson Sangma, head teacher, Wage’Asi Govt LP School.
Feruna Sangma, Principal Bajengdoba HS School, received the state award for 2021.
Ignasius Kerketta of Montfort School, Jonglapara, and Emelda Sangma of Don Bosco Mendal received the Best Scoutmaster and Best Guide Captain award respectively.
The financial assistance award under Teachers Welfare Fund was also given to Babitha Momin, head teacher of Daram Tekalang LP School.
In East Jaiñtia Hills District, the celebration was held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Khliehriat in which Mary Beautiful Dkhar a teacher of Tluh Secondary School who won the State award was felicitated.
Teachers who won the district award Heipor Uni Bang, Head Master of K.B.Memorial School Wapung, C.Tympangmon Pohiing, of Willington Jungai Upper Primay School Ratacherra and Phahdakaru.V.Siangshai of Wapungskur Lower Primary School were also felicitated on the occasion.
Awards were also handed to Best Master and Best Guide Captain to Ronaldo Dkhar of Lumjingshai Secondary School, Tluh and Porky Chyrmang of Good Shepherd Secondary School Ladrymbai respectively.
Meanwhile, Teacher’s Day was also celebrated by the AROH foundation and HDFC Bank Ltd at Nongmadan LP School today.
Headman of the village, P Lyngdoh, MC members of the school, students of Nongmadan Shadsngi LP School were present on the occasion. Gifts distribution and sports kits were handed to teachers as a mark of respect for their untiring services.
