As part of the process for holding of elections to the two district councils in the State, the State government has ordered the preparation of electoral rolls of all constituencies under the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
The KHADC and JHADC elections will be held on February 21, 2025. The counting of votes would be held on February 24.
According to the notification issued by the District Council Affairs Department, the draft electoral roll will be published on January 13, 2025 and the last date for filing of claims and objection is January 22, 2025.
The last date for filing claims and objection to the draft electoral roll for both KHADC and JHADC is January 24, 2025 while the final electoral roll will be published on January 27, 2025.
The last date for filing of nominations is February 3 and the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on the same date. The date for withdrawal of nominations has been scheduled on February 4.
The date of notification to the elections will be issued on January 27. On the same day, the model code of conduct will be effective.
It may be mentioned that the Voice of the People Party (VPP) is the only political party that has declared the full list of candidates for both KHADC and JHADC polls.
Other parties such as NPP, UDP, Congress, HSPDP and KHNAM have announced a partial list respectively and said that their final list of candidates will be out soon.
The BJP is yet to announce the candidates for the district council elections while Trinamool Congress has indicated that it may not contest the polls.
