Shillong, Sep 17: The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in collaboration with the Ri Bhoi district administration organised a ‘ 75+ Samajik Adhikarita Shivir’ for the distribution of aids and assistive devices to Divyangjan (differently-abled).
Near about 2,000 individuals have been identified for support and in today’s programme held at the Block Integrated Development Complex, Umling C&RD Block, around 500 beneficiaries received various assistive devices.
The initiative is part of a nationwide initiative being implemented across 75 districts to provide free aids and assistive devices to Divyangjan and senior citizens under the Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) Scheme and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY). The schemes aim to enhance accessibility, mobility, and improve the overall quality of life of beneficiaries.
The event was attended by Cabinet Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, Nongpoh MDC Rona Khymdeit, Deputy Commissioner Abilash Baranwal, officials, local leaders, community representatives and beneficiaries.
