Shillong, Aug 8: As a step forward in bridging the digital divide among rural students and empowering them with access to quality education, a Digital Learning Hub (DLH) was inaugurated at Mellim Higher Secondary school under Rerapara C&RD Block, South West Garo Hills on Thursday.
The DLH is a CSR initiative by GHE Global Human Expedition with PA Sangma Foundation. Mellim HS School is the first school in South West Garo Hills to benefit from this initiative.
The hub is set up with 10 computers with preloaded study materials and videos without the need for Internet connectivity. Additionally, to counter the erratic nature of power supply in the area, solar UPS was installed with the capacity to power all ten devices together continuously.
Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak, who inaugurated the facility, urged the students to make use of the facilities provided through the initiative and to develop a scientific mindset.
Stating that it was a matter of pride for the school to be the first beneficiary of such a wonderful venture, she encouraged students to make good use of the Hub and develop their standard of education.
BDO Rerapara Armand Ch Momin urged the teachers to make use of weekends to provide additional learning to the students who may not be familiar with the use of computers.
With the Digital Learning Hub in the school, the students of the area are set to experience a whole new learning process with enhanced digital learning capacity to bring them at par with their counterparts across the State.
