The Dhar Construction Company has been accused of shoddy and substandard work for strengthening of the new National Highway 206 from Dawki-Amlarem-Jowai.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC), War Jaiñtia comprising of the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council, Synjuk Ki Nongialam Shnong and others said that the company was given a sanction order for the construction on September 9, 2022 with a target completion of the work within 12 months to construct the road from km 162/100 to km 177/000 on EPC mode for 2021-22.
However, the road from Nongtalang to Dawki sanctioned at over Rs 42.69 crore is now in a deplorable condition within two months of its completion.
Addressing a press conference here today, leaders of the JAC said based on information gathered through the Right to Information, which was followed after an inspection they carried out, the company did follow seven criteria proposed by the Chief Engineer PWD.
The leaders said the Dhar Company did not provide prime and tack coats to the road and failed to construct retaining and breast walls, pucca drains with footpath, open pucca drain, crash barriers and road markings.
The JAC has threatened to move the High Court with a PIL and said the government should black list such companies. They also demanded for a clarification from the Chief Engineer PWD on the substandard work within ten days.
