The three days of leave taken en masse by deficit teachers in the state to protest against the Meghalaya’s government non-acceptance of their demands has left many schools without any teachers.
The teachers want the state government to implement the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission with regards to the deficit school teachers, like pensions, retirement benefits and death gratuity.
President of the Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA), Babu Kular Khongjirem, today said that the mass three-day leave taken by deficit teachers was a 100 percent success.
“There was a 100 per cent support from all the districts except in few remote areas where there was a communication problem,” he told Highland Post.
Khongjirem said that that the teachers took three days leave at a stretch out of their casual leave allowance, which is permitted by the rules.
“We are sacrificing our casual leave and breaking no rules to realize our demands but there has been no communication so far from the government side,” he lamented.
The deficit school teachers also expect a written assurance to ensure the final disbursement of the pending arrears by the end of 2021.
