The Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) and their colleagues in Garo Hills have decided to take a call on a future course of action on the state government’s failure to address all of their pending demands.
KJDSTA President Babu Kular Khongjirem said today that the teachers will be meeting on February 20 to discuss the non-responsive attitude of the government.
“After waiting for more than a month to meet the Chief Minister, he has given no signal to meet the deficit school teachers, so the KJDSTA along with GHDSTEA have decided to have a joint meeting to decide on their future course of action,” he said.
Deficit teachers under the banner of the KJDSTA and GHDSTEA have been demanding the disbursement of their regular salaries on time, besides their other demands.
According to the teachers, their monthly salary comes through after several months and their arrears are also pending to the tune of Rs 1.80 lakh per teacher on average for no fewer than 2,700 deficit teachers across Meghalaya.
