The death toll of Meghalaya students in the case of alleged food poisoning in a Karnataka school has risen two when another victim died on Monday.
According to reports the critically ill student who was referred to a higher facility died on Monday night.
The second victim, a 12 year old was referred to Apollo Hospital, Mysuru.
According to a press statement from the state’s Education department, all the other 22 students from Meghalaya are in stable condition and are being monitored closely.
Meanwhile, the state team comprising officials from the Education department reached the place of occurrence and took stock of the situation.
The team met the District Magistrate of Mandya District and also visited the hospital where the students belonging to Meghalaya are being given medical care.
They also visited the residential school where the incident took place and met all the stakeholders. The team will be submitting their report to the Education Department subsequently.
Moreover, Cyril V Diengdoh, Commissioner & Secretary, Home (Police) Department, government of Meghalaya also reached the spot accompanied by the District Administration and Police Officials.
The District Magistrate Dr Kumar, apprised Diengdoh that the police investigation is going on in full swing and already three people have been arrested including the school owner and hostel warden.
The senior Medical Officers of the Hospital were also present to brief him on the status of the students from Meghalaya.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has announced a compensation of Rs. 3 lakh each to the next of kin of the two victims.
Sangma also informed that the state government will take care of the medical expenditure of all the ailing children.
