A new, strikingly life-like, statue of former Chief Minister DD Lapang was unveiled at Ri Bhoi College today.
Young Minds Association of Ri-Bhoi paid tribute to Lapang through the statue that commemorates his leadership and dedication to the district and state.
The unveiling ceremony took place on the Ri Bhoi College premises here. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem were present along with cabinet minister and MP hopeful Ampareen Lyngdoh, Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar, president of Young Minds Association Isynei Hinge and other figures from the district.
Lapang, who had been accompanied to the event by his family, unveiled the statue.
He expressed his profound gratitude to the leaders and members of the Young Minds Association for honouring him with the statue. Lapang will turn 90 in April but still reaffirmed his commitment today to serve the people of Ri-Bhoi and Meghalaya, stating that as long as he is alive and able, he will continue to work for their betterment.
