The Deputy Commissioners of the state’s 12 districts have been told to submit their reports into the damage caused by the prolonged spell of atrocious weather last week as soon as possible.
Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, who is also the chairperson of the Jaintia Hills regional committee appointed to coordinate the response to the disaster, said that government departments at the local level will report to the respective DC and the latter’s report will be submitted to the government after taking the full district’s perspective.
Rymbui visited several areas in Jaintia Hills last week to take stock of the situation caused by the “unprecedented rain” in person.
Meanwhile, while National Highway 6 has largely been reopened to traffic, there are still areas where the flow has been restricted. The highway, which connects Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and parts of Assam to the rest of the country was affected by several landslides that blocked traffic and stranded passengers.
“As of now the traffic is flowing but at some places it is only one way. The Superintendent of Police has alerted all his officers in each and every critical area that manning of those areas is important so that the movement of vehicles is not be impacted,” Rymbui said.
