A meeting was held between the district administration along with the telecom committee as well as NGOs and the development committees of various localities over ways to improve the network services, mainly of Airtel and Jio, especially in Tura Town.
During the meeting it was found that there was resistance from localities in setting up new network towers in various places including Dakopgre, Rongkhon Songgital, Babupara, Mondoltila, Akhonggre, near Sherwood School and Darechikgre to boost up connectivity. The administration has requested those objecting to cooperate at least for the sake of the youth.
Further the NGOs and locality committees have also been asked to help convince the owners to operate generators.
The administration also felt the need to move forward with optic fibre connectivity and asked BSNL to increase the number of connections. Presently the number of connections stands at 1000. People have also been requested to move to FTH lines due to faster speeds and better data options. The aim is to get to at least 5000 FTTH lines even as Jio has begun to lay its fibre lines in the region.
The administration also spoke of the need to use generators in the rural areas where disruptions in power are higher and asked owners to cooperate.
The meeting lamented that despite towers following safety standards there were apprehensions on radiation. As per data, there were lesser towers in the district as compared to cities. The need for more towers was highlighted especially due to the undulating terrain.
Lastly the meeting stressed the need for all complaints to be filed with customer care of the network or a message sent in the District Administration on its FB page. The DC assured all will be done to sort out the issues as much as possible.
