South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Tableland Lyngwa today handed a cheque of Rs 2.20 lakh to support Kmoin Wahlang, the 76-year-old grandmother who has been chosen to represent India at the 13th Pan Pacific Masters Games 2024 in Gold Coast, Australia.
The financial assistance was proposed by the Sports and Youth Affairs which was provided through the District Sports Officer in Mawkyrwat.
In June, Wahlang who made an appeal for help to get to the race was promised by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri to aid her financially.
Wahlang was selected following her performance in Hyderabad earlier this year where she caught the attention of the Pan India Masters Games Federation. She was selected to be part of the 75-plus age category to represent India in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m at the November 1-10 event in Queensland.
