Chief Minister Conrad Sangma who is on his second day of visit to the flood affected areas in Garo Hills today visited Chokpot civil sub-division in South Garo Hills to see with his own eyes the impact of the calamity.
Sangma visited Reni Badimagre village where a suspension bridge over Dareng River connecting Reni Badimagre to Bibragre has collapsed due to the flood. However, no population is affected by floods in the village.
He also visited Mount Carmel School near Chokpot market which was affected by floods. Although the school building was not damaged, materials like books, furniture etc were damaged.
The chief minister also visited the damaged houses at Bibragre, Chokpot. A total of 20 households were affected by floods and nine houses were damaged. He also distributed relief to all the 20 affected families.
In Rongrakgre village, the chief minister interacted with the flood affected families. A total of 38 households were affected and 24 houses reported to be damaged. The necessary relief was supplied to all the affected families.
Sangma also interacted with people of two flood affected village namely Gonganggre and Danggilgre. Both these villages have 27 affected households while ten houses have been damaged. He also distributed relief to all the affected people.
In Daramgre village, the chief minister visited the seven households affected by the flood. Three houses were damaged in the village.
Sangma also visited Daramgre playground affected by siltation due to floods. He promised to clear the silt with the help of PWD authorities.
Further, the chief minister visited the affected population of Rongrikkimgre village and inspected the washed away suspension bridge over Dareng River connecting Rongrikkimgre village to Dikronggre village. The suspension bridge was built by the Border Area Development Department many years ago.
