Almost the entire village of Daribokgre under East Garo Hills district has been covered under the Jal Jeevan Mission – a grand program of the central government to provide tap water connections to all households of all villages in the country.
Jal Jeevan Mission is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
The program, which started during this year, has already been taken up at various levels in all districts of the Garo Hills region, with many households already reporting receipt of drinking water through the installed taps.
For East Garo Hills, the first village to be almost completely covered under the program is the village of Daribokgre with the local MLA from Williamnagar, Marcuise Marak (under which the village falls) announcing the landmark earlier through a social media post.
Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe said all villages are expected to be covered under the scheme with the village of Rongsak Songittal being the next in line. Work in other villages is also progressing in a similar manner.
“The PHE department is implementing this scheme and the retrofitting work at Daribokgre is about to be completed. Work has also started in several other villages. We will be closely monitoring the same to ensure timely completion,” Tembe said.
