A husband and wife were allegedly tied up and assaulted in the village of Boldoka, West Garo Hills by criminals who then decamped with over Rs 25,000 of the couple’s money.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 2:30am when 10 miscreants stole Rs 25,901 from the couple, who own a grocery shop attached to their residence in Boldoka, which is under Selsella Police Outpost.
The miscreants assaulted Trebith A Sangma (32) and 26-year-old wife with a rod.
Police launched an operation to nab the dacoits with search operations and road blocks.
“We have very strong clues on who may have been behind the attack and looting and investigation is on accordingly. A team has been formed to nab the perpetrators and the vehicle used by them to commit the crime,” said Superintendent of Police MGR Kumar.
Police confirmed that an FIR has been received in the matter and investigation was currently ongoing.
“Security has been beefed up, with an increase in naka checks and patrolling taking place in vulnerable areas. We appeal to all to remain alert and to provide any information on any miscreants or suspects without any delay to the police control room,” said Kumar.
