Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has directed all deputy commissioners in all the districts to close down schools tomorrow due to the prevailing weather conditions.
He said this is being done to ensure the safety of students.
The heavy rain witnessed in many parts of the state today is expected to continue tomorrow with Cyclone Sitrang depositing even more rainfall on Meghalaya.
While the East Khasi Hills notification ordered all schools to remain closed, that from West Jaiñtia Hills also ordered colleges and other educational institutions to remain shut on Tuesday, till filing of this report.
The orders were passed by the respective District Disaster Management Authority Chairpersons, i.e. the Deputy Commissioners.
Authorities in Ri-Bhoi have also cautioned the public to take precautions given the expected bad weather.
