As part of the countrywide observance of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – India@75, the office of the West Khasi Hills District Sports Officer in collaboration with the Mairang Sub-Divisional Officer and the District Sports Promotion Society, organised a ‘Cyclothon Rally’ today.
The rally was flagged off by the Syiem Khynnah of Hima Nongkhlaw, KM Syiemlieh, at Madan Mot Tirot, Mairang Mission, in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner, A Nongbri, and the DSO, PB War Nongbri.
The objective of the rally was to create awareness about the sacrifices made by the state’s freedom fighters as India celebrates 75 years of independence from British rule.
Braving inclement weather, a few youth and children of the area participated in the 3.8km rally, which went through Mairang Mission – Tirot Sing Memorial College – Mairangbah – Pyndengumiong and back to Mairang Mission.
In his brief address before flagging off the rally, the Syiem Khynnah thanked DSO’s office for organising the cyclothon and expressed optimism that more such programmes will be organised by the Sports Department to celebrate the legacy and sacrifice of the Khasi patriot, U Tirot Sing Syiem.
