Shillong customs has seized about 370 grams of heroin worth approximately Rs 2.59 crore hidden inside a car from Nongmensong in the city.
Two accused in the case were also arrested by the officers of the Customs Commissionerate (Preventive) on November 22.
According to customs officials, the contraband was discovered in the interior part of the Tata Punch car’s dashboard packed in 30 soap cases. Initially, the occupants denied that they were in possession of any such contraband.
Customs reiterated its commitment to combating various forms of cross-border crime, including smuggling of gold, cigarettes, drugs and narcotics, wildlife articles, Fake Indian Currency Notes, import-export frauds, and trade-based money laundering.
The operation was carried out in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies, showcasing the collaborative efforts to ensure the safety and security of the region.
Further investigations are ongoing to dismantle any potential networks associated with the drug trafficking.
According to officials anybody can support the fight against cross border crime, smuggling and trade based money laundering by giving information to the office.
The customs also said that names of informer are not only kept confidential, but there is an excellent reward scheme also, which is income tax free.
