The Hindu community in the State celebrated Durga Puja with great pomp, with the last immersions taking place on the auspicious of Maha Dashami today.
Members of the public participated with joy and happiness and beseeched the goddess for peace and prosperity as idols of Goddess Durga were immersed in rivers in different parts of the State.
Organisers of most pujas committees were seen leading colourful processions to the rivers amid the beating of drums and chanting of mantras.
The Hindu holiday was celebrated from October 2 this year, with 257 community pandals and five private pandals in the state, 137 of which were in Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills and 120 in Garo Hills.
Devotees expressed hope that the festival will fill the lives of the people with happiness, prosperity and joy.
The Nongpoh Maa Kali Mandir Puja Committee has thanked all communities and the district administration for their support during the Durga Puja celebrations this year.
Meanwhile, the Central Puja Committee will also conduct two cleaning drives tomorrow.
