The Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) has sought the attention of the East Khasi Hills District Disaster Management Authority to take immediate action to see that the roads from Umiam viewpoint to Ryndang Briew and the by-pass in Sohiong do not pose a threat to commuters.
The organisation said that the road from the viewpoint is in danger due to heavy rainfall and landslides are frequent occurrence. It also referred to the wall located in the by-pass under Sohiong which collapsed last year that has not been repaired.
Quoting three sections under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 the CSWO also urged the district disaster management team to submit a report to the State government on the status of these roads to prevent any mishap.
