To commemorate the nationwide mass plantation programme initiated by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the Northeast Sector Headquarters and 67th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) organised several events across various locations in the state.
Yesterday Union Home Minister Amit Shah formally launched the programme at Wahshari, Sohra, where Inspector General Sonal V Mishra of the CRPF planted saplings.
Plantation drives were also organised by the CRPF at various locations in Meghalaya. Personnel carried out planting at the Law Lyngdoh Special Reserve Forest (Nongseh) and Umkhraw River Front (Shillong) of East Khasi Hills as well as at Umiam Lake of Ri-Bhoi.
The events were also attended by officials of the Forest Department and members of local communities. Similarly, programmes were organised in the Garo Hills.
