Residents of Umdapdumu and Umdaprangi villages in the Umling block of Ri-Bhoi suffered major losses after a severe storm yesterday afternoon damaged many houses and fields.
The sudden storm struck at around 2pm when strong winds swept through the area, destroying homes, betel leaf plantations, banana plants and other crops.
Speaking about the damage, village leaders Alexander Maring of Umdaprangi and Julius Maring of Umdapdumu said the sudden storm affected the villagers badly, damaging over 20 houses along with betel leaf plantations, bananas and other crops.
In light of this environmental destruction, the village leaders have appealed to the government to send officials to assess the damage and to arrange relief measures for the families severely impacted by the storm.
