One Simnang Sangma, surrendered to North Garo Hills police today after he was identified by the authorities in a case of stockpiling weapons that had been recovered last week.
As per reports, police raided Sangma’s house in the village of Dalmang, under Bajengdoba Police Station, after receiving information of weapons being collected by the suspect.
Sangma (30) had fled the scene by the time of the police raid, however. A few dummy weapons and country made guns were recovered, though, along with camouflage uniforms. The raid was conducted on October 13.
“While the raid was on, Sangma was not in the village and was absconding. However, he later surrendered to the police at Bajengdoba and is currently cooperating with the investigation,” said Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
