The examination centre at the College of Postgraduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences (CPGSAS) has been reinstated, allowing candidates from Meghalaya to sit their exams there for the posts of LDC, UDC and FCLA early in the New Year.
The candidates who had picked the Umiam centre for their written exam on January 3 and 4, 2025 were shocked when they were told that their centre would be at Assam Downtown University in Guwahati.
The Khasi Students Union (KSU) had protested against this, claiming that other affiliated colleges of the Central Agricultural University (Imphal), such as the College of Community Science in Tura, the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Mizoram, the College of Agricultural Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology in Sikkim, the College of Fisheries in Tripura and the College of Horticulture & Forestry in Arunachal Pradesh were designated as exam centres from the beginning and it was only Umiam that was shifted to another state.
The pressure group alleged that this was an attempt to give candidates from Assam a leg up in the application process for the Umiam-based college.
