The youth wing of the Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) said today that the present situation in Meghalaya brought on by the rise in Covid-19 cases has pushed the citizens to extremes, especially daily wage earners.
KHNAM youth wing president Thomas Passah advised the government to instruct hospitals not to charge patients for the use of PPE. He also called on the government to provide relief to those suffering financially because of the lockdown.
“The incapability of the state government to tackle the Coronavirus cases at the entry points has led to this stage where lockdown and other extreme measures have become unavoidable. Individuals who entered the state were tested and then sent home without the result being declared, which can be termed as a very careless move at this hour of emergency,” he said.
KHNAM also hit out at the sudden decision to impose a lockdown in East Khasi Hills yesterday, giving the public just a few hours to prepare, which led to overcrowding in public places.
